Congratulations are in order for our ASPE Chapter President Paul Martin, he has joined Herrero Construction and will be working on the Herrero/Boldt Joint Venture team as the Senior Estimator for Sutter’s Cathedral Hill Hospital project in San Francisco. This project is a $1 billion, cutting edge project utilizing Integrated Project Delivery (IPD). Congratulations Paul!

Message from the President

Sacramento Chapter 11 of the American Society of Professional Estimators is experiencing a growth which has not been seen since the mid 80's. We are pleased to see so many Chief Estimators, from General Contractors, Sub Contractors, and Construction Cost Firms becoming active in the ASPE.

Now, more than ever, is the time to promote and support high estimating professional standards and ethics in the estimating profession.

Your ASPE chapter is committed to becoming the best chapter in the nation. ASPE wants to be the best possible recourse for you. The ASPE meeting is an opportunity to converse with fellow estimators from other subcontractors and general contractors.

In today's competitive climate, the ASPE is a resource for the estimator not only as a knowledge base but to keep "in sync" with your fellow estimators both subcontractor and general contractors.

I hope to see you there. It would be a pleasure to talk to you.

Sincerely,
Paul Martin, LEED® AP
Senior Estimator, Herrero Construction

Please join the ASPE group at 11:30 AM at 2729 Prospect Park Drive, Rancho Cordova CA 95670.

Urgent and Important!

Our industry faces challenges and opportunities every day. Perhaps the most serious challenge, which is at the same time a great opportunity, is finding and hiring talented individuals for our industry who will contribute to the professionalism, the expertise, and the longevity of our businesses. Sacramento ASPE chapter strongly supports the Construction related programs of local universities and colleges including California State University, Sacramento Construction Management Program.

The CM Program at CSUS is one of very few in the nation that requires a business minor as a requirement for graduation. The CM graduates from CSUS are better prepared to perform in an entrepreneurial manner when working in our industry because they have been given a basis for understanding that contractors are business people who are concerned about a quality product and a profitable business.

Please access the Plan of Excellence for the program. And Sacramento CM Education Foundation to follow SCMEF’s progress.

Reno Design Build Competition

The education committee of the Sacramento ASPE chapter believes to enhance the education of the CSUS students, they should get opportunities to compete in construction industry project competitions against other universities and colleges in the western United States with CM programs such as Arizona State University, Cal Poly, Oregon State, and University of Washington. For the past five years, the CSUS students have competed in the ASC Student Competition (Reno Competition) and have placed in the top three of at least one of the division categories and in 2008 captured an unprecedented three national titles! To put in perspective the magnitude of this accomplishment, no school in the history of the almost 30 year old competition has ever captured three national wins in the same year.

To help support everyone’s future, please submit donations no later than February 1st, 2009. Checks should be made payable to SACRAMENTO CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT EDUCATION FOUNDATION or (SCMEF) and in the memo write “For ASC Student Competition.
Please bring your donation checks to the Friday 1/8/2010 lunch meeting or mail to:
